Mister and Ms. Jones have a small store. It opens at seven o’clock in the morning and closes at 9 p.m. The store sells all kinds of things to eat; candies, fruit, bread, milk and cakes. It also sells newspapers.

The store is near a school and so Ms. Jones makes a lot of sandwiches and sells them to the students at lunch time. They also sell drinks to the students: sodas, orange juice, lemonade and so on. But they do not sell drinks in glass bottles because Mister Jones thinks glass is dangerous.

The boys and girls from the school are the store’s best customers. The busiest time in the store is from 12 noon to 1.30 p.m. Mister and Ms. Jones need help when the store is busy, so their neighbor Alice works with them for about three hours every day.

Mister and Ms. Jones never get a vacation. Sometimes they have a free day on a Sunday, but only if their son, Paul, can come from the city to work in the store.

If Mister and Ms. Jones get a day off on a Sunday they go to visit their daughter and her family, who live in the country.
