ABOUT
JOHN JAMES CARTY
John James Carty was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He started his working life in the restaurant business. In the early sixties he moved to London, where he first met Spanish people.
He worked closely with them for 12 years, making lifelong friends and learning about Spain and the Spanish language.

In 1976 John became secretary of the London Snooker Association (Snooker is a version of billar/pool).
His interest in this sport took him into journalism and he was a correspondent for The Irish Post 1977-1984, founding editor of Baulkline Magazine 1978-1982, and editor of Cue World Magazine 1980 – 1985.

He was co-author of the successful books “World Snooker with Jack Karnehm” (1981-1982). He lectured in English Law at Croydon College 1973-1981.
In addition to these ‘free time’ activities, John was a 35-year career civil servant with the British Internal Revenue Service, working on complex legal matters and training younger colleagues how to write good English.
He holds the UK National Training and Education Certificate (1995).
John took early retirement in 2004. He married Socorro, a Colombian, in 2005 and now lives in Medellin, Colombia, where he teaches English.
