TAG ENDINGS

(Tag questions, preguntas de confirmación)

Sirven como ‘¿seguro? ‘¿cierto? ¿verdad?’, ‘¿sí o no?’

1. Estas preguntas se agregan al final de una oración siguiendo una coma –

a. This is the right place, isn’t it?

b. You weren’t there at the time, were you?

c. It’s really quite good, isn’t it?

d. You’re not going to wear that, are you?

Si la oración es afirmativa la pregunta debe ser en negativa

(ejemplos a. y c. arriba).

Si la oración es negativa la pregunta debe ser en afirmativa

(los ejemplos b. y d. arriba)

2. La negativa debe contraer siempre:

‘weren’t you?’ ‘isn’t it? ''wasn't she?'

Si te hablas por completo, `were you not?', `is it not?’ o 'was she not? tu pregunta será demasiado formal. Generalmente, solo los jueces y los abogados en los tribunales hablan así.

3. Es posible tener dos afirmativos juntos pero esto suena

generalmente sarcástico o agresivo:

Oh, so you’re Martin Smith, are you?

So you thought that was a good idea, did you?

I see, these have all been sold, have they?

And you want to give the boss some advice, do you?

Deberías evitar este uso.

Empiece ligeramente por leer Gerundio e Infinitivo Parte 1 (presente participio ) y el Gerundio e Infinitivo en Inglés y leer estos documentos de vez en cuando.
