and disaster that will teach you English.
By John James Carty
Zuzu, Lulu and You is dedicated to the memory of Olga Inés Sierra Valencia (Tía Inés) 18 August 1952 – 4 June 2009
CHAPTER ONE
MY HOUSE
Hello. My name is Julian José Mendez Gomez. You can call me Zuzu. I live in Santander, Spain and I am seven years old in earth - years.
I’m not sure exactly where Santander is in Spain. My Dad says it’s near paradise, especially when Real Santander wins a match. My Mom says we live near Calle Burgos and the malls and that’s all anyone needs to know.
The apartment –
We live in an apartment on the twenty-first floor of the Edificio Hidalgo. We have a front door with a doorbell and a light. Inside we have a hall, a living room, a dining room, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen, where Mom lives. In the kitchen there is a television above the sink, another one above the fridge and a portable TV on the freezer. My mom likes television.
The furniture –
We have a lot of furniture: chairs, tables, closets, armchairs, things to hold plants, beds, carpets and stuff like that. I have noticed that earth people like to sit on chairs.
The kitchen –
In the kitchen where Mom lives there is a cooker, a wall-oven, a fridge, a freezer, pots and pans, bowls, knives and other things for cooking.
The bedroom –
In my bedroom I have a bed, a mat, a closet and dresser. I also have two drawers full of toys. On the wall I have posters of Metallica and Vin Diesel.
The pets –
I have two pets: Mo is a gorilla. He is three meters tall and eats carrots. My Mom doesn’t like him.
My other pet, Sniz, is a snake. He’s a man-eating boa constrictor and is ten meters long. He doesn’t like Mom. He eats mice and some of my socks.
These two pets are, of course, earth animals and in this part of Santander I’m surrounded by earth people.
The bathroom –
Oh, I forgot; in the bathroom we have a washstand, a bath and a shower. There is a shelf to put things like soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
There are two plastic mats on the floor so that we don’t slip if the floor is wet. There is an air spray thing on the wall that I have to press after I’ve ‘been’.
This is to make sure there’s no po-po smell. I don’t think it works.
My Mom has read this and she says the spelling is good but some of it
isn’t true. I don’t know what she means….ZUZU
